Artist History
The man behind Heliotrope is M. Selmer - born 1971 - who is from a small town called Holbaek 60 km west of Copenhagen. His interest for music started as very young, when he started listening to the Danish radio guru Kim Schumacher. A couple of years later he started DJing in a mobile discotheque and at the local radio station. It was at that point he started making music himself.
In the beginning he bought a 4 track tape recorder, a drum machine and a keyboard. The equipment wasn't quite enough for him, so he decided to sell the 4 track tape recorder and as 21 he started making techno on an Amiga computer he had bought instead. But after a year he sold it again and began to make more serious techno on more professional equipment. At this moment Heliotrope is the main project for the Danish techno artist, but he still got some old side projects called Skylab Dahlia, Ginkgo Groover and Quite Explicit. In 1998 Heliotrope was signed to Hypnotic Records - a division of Cleopatra - which lead to a two-track 12-inch vinyl release and a feature on compilation. |
