    Artist History
Biography June 14, 1966, Darren Rhodes, born Darren Harold Coleman to Harold and Jane Coleman, in Windber, Pennsylvania.Six pounds / seven ounces, with dark hair, dark eyes and lusty (ready to make some music) lungs. He was surrounded with music at an early age, listening to his parent's favorite country records.Every year, he and his sister watched mom and dad singing and playing at family reunions. His dad played guitar and his mom played her accordion, singing the old country songs Darren learned to love. Darren seemed to be a natural with music. He was quick to learn lyrics to both old and new country songs. This gift would be an asset as he began to look to music as a career. His dream was to be on the Grand Ole Opry. This dream began to take hold at age seven, after seeing Marty Robbins perform. Darren surprised his parents by playing the Wabash Cannonball on the guitar at age nine, after closely watching the wayhis dad played the chords. From then on, the guitar became Darren's best friend and companion. Darren's formal singing lessons came from school choral groups he joined from sixth grad through twelfth. After moving to Florida with his family in 1982, he played and sang at campgrounds, earning money doing what he loved best. He auditioned for and was picked to sing in a local Opry show. Wanting to pursue a career in music, he moved to Alabama in 1993 with the Opry show. Later he joined an area band as the lead singer. Their country music and his personal style of singing was well received. He was on the Country Boy Eddie Show, a local TV show based in Birmingham, Alabama. He also performed at the Alabama Country Music Association near Cullman, Alabama. In November 1998, Darren recordeda 2 song CD at Chelsea Studio in Nashville, TN. The first song on the CD debuted at # 48 on the Independent Tracker Charts on March 10, 2000. In November 2000, Darren records his first album at KMA Records www.kmarecords.com and was released in February 2001. It seems that Darren is on his way to seeing his dream come true.If you ask him, Darren will tell you God has given him his talent and remains in the spotlight, center stage, a very important place in Darren,s life.

Music Reviews CD Review by John Burris of TakinTheCountryBack.com By John Burris Sep 11, 2002, 12:48 This CD is a KMA Records offering with a copyright date of 2001. This is one of those albums that I personally really like because it has some really nice songs in it. The CD starts with the title track. "Jesse Told Becky Goodbye" is a song that reminds me of "I’ll Be True To You" by the Oak Ridge Boys, but this song gives a lot more detail. It tells the story from the view of a resident of the hometown where the two young lovers grew up. First, they are inseparable, and then he tells her goodbye and leaves town. The singer then sings about her life between him and death and how she never lost her deep love for him. When she dies, he comes to the funeral, and, again, Jesse tells her goodbye and knows he has made a big mistake. This song is a great one, and the artist and his voice are a perfect match for the song. "Johnny Walker Walk" is about an attitude adjustment on somebody who loves to drink more than anything. "She Gets It Right" is a little ditty about a lady who is trying to find the right love for her life. "Your Mister Misses You" is a song about the road, and the song itself has a Dave and Sugar flavor to it. "You Got Me" is a song about a relationship and how sometimes what one gets in love is not a fantasy, but a real live person, who might not be exactly what one is looking for. "I've Been There" is a crying-in-the-beer song that makes me think of one of the best singers in the business--Hank Locklin. It recounts the story of a bartender telling a patron that he knows about his problems because he has been there. "I’ll Remember You" is a song about love lost and memories found. "Send the Angels Down" is a song that reminds me of a cross between the music of "Amanda" and the lyrics of Vern Gosdin’s "Dead From The Heart On Down". "Work Hard, Play Hard" tells about the singer’s philosophy of life. The last track on this cd is called "Coldest Night Since 1951." The singer tells of listening to the radio on his way home, knowing he didn’t have to worry about this coldest night since 1951, since he had his loving wife to keep him warm when he got home. He gets home to find that it really is the "Coldest Night Since 1951." This album has been put together nicely. There are several songs that I think would deserve airplay, and I personally think "1951" and "Jesse Told Becky Goodbye" are awesome songs. Either would be worth the price of an album. The singers strong point is his baritone voice. On a song or two, the artist reminds me of Hank Locklin, and on others he reminds me of William Lee Golden and Duane Allen. On a few he reminds me of Narvel Felts--maybe not technically perfect, but with the ability to sell a song. I would be willing to part with the price of admission for a chance to hear this singer live because I think there would be some pleasant surprises in his show. One thing is for sure; whoever picked these songs knows what good country songs are about. I would rate this cd at 3.5 out of a possible 5; however, the opening and closing tracks are so good that I will give the CD a 4. If you like great story songs, cut one and cut ten are for you. And get your handkerchief or Kleenex out. -John Burris
