Artist History
Internationally unsigned recording artist Adam the Gimbel has been practicing rock moves since he first heard "Turning Japanese" in 1980. Following a critically acclaimed Bar Mitzvah several years later, he took a decade vacation from performing to study exactly why he didn't want to be in the business end of the music business. Satisfied with his conclusions, he became the member of several short lived bands with great names (Cracklin' Oat Band, Suzanne & The Summerz, Cover Me Badd, and The Xanadu Project). In late 2000, Adam performed a handful of vaguely memorable acoustic solo shows where he did everything from play a medley of riffs by a band for every letter in the alphabet to being the first person to ever perform "Rock The Casbah" at the world famous San Diego club the Casbah (to the tune of "London Calling", of course) to pulling an entire audience outside of a club located in the flightpath of the San Diego Airport to play "Back In The USSR" (Murphy's Law: no planes flew over the FIRST time he did it). After co-founding the band Rookie Card (http://www.rookiecardthemovie.com), he couldn't help but make a few bits of his now-stalled solo endeavors available to the public. He loves being in a band but it really doesn't allow him the freedom to blab endlessly in between songs, attempt requests, and play too many covers. Most of these songs were recorded live at the Casbah, opening for Frank Black on 12.19.00. Adam calls San Diego his home but would like to relocate to London circa 1966 as soon as he can get the 1.21 jiggowatts together. |

Press Reviews
"Genuinely entertaining" (La Jolla Light) "Hey Adam, fuck you. Send us your shitty album, so we can throw it away." (Tenacious D, true story!) "I think the words to your song are very clever, they tell quite a story really but they are a little sad in places. That is the part of almost any story. You keep on writing, I think you have talent. May the wind always be at your back. Regards, Bill Cane" (Bill is 93 years young, check him out at http://www.mp3.com/billcane) |
