Artist description
Boom Box City was founded on the ideals that wackness is unacceptable in future societies. Founding fathers, Buttercup Sanford, Benny Dallas Jr. & The Count of Monte Negro,
have put the burden of these ideals upon their own shoulders by accepting the responsibilities as city councilmen. The future will never be the same with these holy crusaders
leading the way. |

Press Reviews
“If you have an attention span such as mine, the equivalent of a baby-chimp on crack, then you can certainly appreciate the fresh sounds of BBCC. A Chicago, Illinois hip-hop group that is teetering on the fence of the alternative genre with “Mars Song”.
They’ve categorized their track perfectly under Alternative Hip-Hop. In the beginning of this song, BBCC lures you in with a “You have been selected….” sample, then starts spitting out beats that can’t exactly be pinpointed, but are fast, complex, and hard hitting,
only to be broken down into a half-time jazz style rhythm. While at the same time the “story” continues, and there is a story here to follow. They lure you into a false sense of security and peacefulness for a while…then…. BAM! Back to the assault!
This time the lyrics start pouring from some pissed-off bastards mouth! Ahhhh…Yes……I can feel the pain. There is definitely emotion and conviction in this verse. A sort of anger I can only compare to Rage Against The Machine, Trent Reznor and
Ministry. Dirty, distorted vocals that are demanding and commanding respect. BBCC gets their point across, but not constantly. By that I mean they leave plenty of wide open spaces for just plain grooving and they don’t seem to pollute a track with constant vocals.
“Mars Song” takes you from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other. Their straight-up musical skillz can be likened to DJ Shadow, Fatboy Slim, and Moby, but these artists never hit with a vocal force like Boom Box City Council. Pay attention while this one is spinning,
because there’s a lot going on, in a positive way. All the samples that BBCC used seemed very fresh to me, and they’ve assembled them into some sort of delicious “Turntablist/Hip-Hop/Jungle/Electronica Salad”. Dig in! Overall: 9/10” – QuarterlyReviews.com |
