Press Reviews
DotCom Mix | July 2001 | Infra Dig
"I was trying to achieve a downtempo composition mostly; I had no intention of making this a dance mix," Infra Dig confirms.
But you don't need his words or speech to prove that this one one seriously mind-messaging mix. Infra Dig is Chris Lindgren of Missouri, and he has brought his unique style to the Dotcom Mix series. In fact, he's raised the bar for overall mix talent -- for this is one all around awesome set. Flawless mixing, amazing tracks, and brilliant timing make this one for the records.
Technicalities aside, this is also the first Dotcom mix to venture into the trip-hop / jungle territory. And who could do it better justice? Mapping it out for us, "The mix starts out with laidback trip hop tracks, setting the mellow atmosphere. The middle of the mix is where I pick up with some ambient drum and bass. The climax comes with Bio[Rhythm]'s tracks, displaying the peak of intelligent drum and bass production online. The mix cools down to DJ Sean's spaced-out blunted sound.
"I feel I've accomplished everything I wanted to with my DotCom Mix. It takes the listener on a journey through the internet's finest in trip hop and jungle arists. I don't think I skipped a beat with each tracks transition, and didn't overlook a single detail," He further adds.
Once you nod your head to the trip hop beats of Phader "Revolution" you'll wander into the spacey, trippy atmosphere of Infra Dig. By now you should realize: Infra Dig is taking you on his most chillinest' journey he can offer -- but not without some fresh attitude to guide you. The breath of fresh air continues with unrestrained ease as Kikiwest's "Creeper" lofty vocals over lush keyboards help smooth the way onward. Infra Dig then choses to intensify the attitude of the bliss he's created by throwing in the drum n bass of Void "Chillroom" -- a flawless transition keeping in touch with the atmospheric foundations. Waves of keyboards splash against the rocks of scattered drums in U:Tama "Passion Luxe", leading up to the shimmery night sky of [KK]Bio[Rhythm] "Kloud7" & "Nu-Life". Drums, drums, drums! The stroll-in-the-park vibe of DJ Sean (Wiseman) "Out Here We're Stoned" helps coast into the backyard feel of Chukimai "Blue". Open your eyes... and it's over.
After two years of fooling around with hardward and equipment, we're now seeing the structured and mature Infra Dig; one with a style and flare that has stemmed from endless toying with samples and tools. Now about ready to take off with new Dj equipment, Infra Dig has chosen Dotcom Mix to showcase what people can come to expect later on. Being swept by such a ambient mix of drums and moods, one can only conclude: You need ID to chill.
