Artist History
I began formal training at the age of ten which consisted of the study of drums, piano, guitar, voice, music theory, counterpoint and orchestration. This lasted approximately twelve years after which I continued mainly on my own through studying scores and interacting with fellow musicians. It actually began earlier though, because I was the youngest in a family of six where everyone was a musician or musical. I can recall hearing melodies and rhythmic figures in my mind long before any musical training. This was to become a problem when I entered the ridgid world of Catholic School at the age of five. My pronounced proclivity for daydreaming, staring out the window and swaying to the music in my mind was not well received by the nuns and other superiors at the institution. I was yelled at, struck with rulers and eventually locked in the boiler room in the basement of an old forbidding building. Fearing that I was mentally ill or perhaps even possessed I was sent to a series of specialists. But as it turns out, I was only a musician. Down through the years I played solo or in a series of bands and built several studios. As is the experience of most people these all eventually ran their course but yielded the personal and inner milestones of growth and experience. The advent of digital recording and the Internet was the beginning of a new phase and rebirth for me. With the building of my new studio and website it seems that I have come full circle back to my original love of daydreaming and performing music. It seems to me that composing was really all I ever wanted to do and this new world revolution allows me to do so directly." |
