Artist History
Singer-songwriter-guitarist Nick Millward formed Unsmashable Riffbrokers in the fall of 1999 following the disbanding of Eightball Break. The members of the Boise based garage punk band fronted by Nick went their sperate ways after five years and three self-released albums. The first incarnation of the new project included lead guitarist Alex Richards (New Electric Peaches) and drummer Ryan Davis (Gusto, Magnetics) with bassist Heather Burnett (Elk City). The new collection of songs were denser lyrically, with music borrowing from Americana roots. Alex's dirty electric guitar complemented Nick's acoutic for a gritty rock n' roll presence. After a few performances in Boise, Millward and Burnett moved to Seattle in early 2000. The two felt out the new scene playing acoustic sets around town. Soon they recruited drummer Dustin Miller (Veer) and played a few quiet shows at the Hopvine in Capitol Hill. By December they were ready to record a demo. Alex Richards flew in to lay down lead tracks for a two day session at Egg Studio. With the help of engineer Johnny Sangster they emerged with songs that echoed influences stretching from John Prine and Jerry Jeff Walker to the Bryds and 70s era Stones. Currently Unsmashable Riffbrokers are working in new material to record and playing shows around the region. They have borrowed guitarist Corey Dotson from 'Lower 48'(In which Nick also plays bass) to fill out the sound. |
