By an american friend: "I have met the musicians of Mannaman Mac Lyrr when they were on tour in Paris. At that time, we had some long talks over coffee and they told me their story. July 1996, Epinay-sur-Orge, a little suburban town a few miles away from Paris. Jo and Nico (bass and accoustic guitar), two friends from high school, invited Arno (violin) to a jam session. Arno, in return, introduced his elder brother Romain (cello) to them and they played for the first time in the basement of Nico s parents house. These four had a few rehearsals over the following months, but stopped playing when Jo met his girlfriend Flo. At that time, Arno didn t feel anything special and didn t want to keep playing rock music. May 1997, Savigny-sur-Orge. Nico, Jo and Romain performed their first concert at Nico s music school s fair with a drums teacher and Mika, a 15 year-old guitarist. They played « Wonderwall », by Oasis, along with their first song, merely called « number One ». Mika was invited to join the band after the concert. September 1997, Epinay. Flo, Jo s girlfriend, started to sing with the band; Arno, suddenly inspired by Louise Attaque first LP, joined the band back. A few months later, Arno introduced a drummer to the musicians : the guy didn t fit the band s style, and was left in February 1998. Meanwhile, the musicians called themselves Mannaman Mac Lyrr, after celtic god Mananan Mac Llyr. April 1998, Longpont-sur-Orge. Mika arranged a meeting with a drummer that was also called Nico and that quickly became THE one. Mannaman mac Lyrr was born. The band quit Nico s basement and started to rehearse in the drummer s studio. The musicians performed concerts around Paris and recorded their first demo during the summer. December 1998, Longpont. Mannaman Mac Lyrr decided to take part to the Emergenza 1999 rock music competition in Paris. The 220-band competition lasted seven months, and the band performed on Paris most famous stages : the Gibus, the New Morning and the Elysée-Montmartre. The band showed his ability to create a new kind of rock style, which they called « musique authentique » : the sound of two classical instruments went marvelously great with the beat of Nico s drums, the timbre of Flo s dark voice, Nico s and Mika s accoustic and electric sounds. Moreover, the complicity between the cello and the electric bass was amazing. To their great surprise, Mannaman Mac Lyrr was declared the winner and was sent to Hamburg, Germany, to perform at Emergenza s European final in July 1999. The band finished 3rd over 18 European bands : Romain and Arno were awarded the « Best Musicians » Emergenza 1999 Prize. I never met Mannaman Mac Lyrr after their 99 concerts, but I was told, to my astonishment, that Arno was fired from the band and that his brother quit Mannaman Mac Lyrr. It seems that the other musicians still rehearse in the drummer s studio, but they don t do any more concerts. Anyway, enjoy Mannaman Mac Lyrr s music !"
