Artist History Mucus Membrane was formed in 1996 by Tom Persons (ex-Pessimist, Psypheria) and Vinnie Matthews (Dying Fetus) as a side project to provide an outlet for their most brutal musical tendencies. After colaborating with Sparky Voyles (Dying Fetus) on a few songs they recorded the "Shallow Existence" mini CD which was released on Wild Rags records in early '97. At this point Tom moved to San Jose, California and joined Psypheria (then called Enthroned). Tom continued to write music for Mucus until he actively sought to put a band together in 2000 after feeling restricted in his ability to contribute to Psypheria. This culminated in the release of another 4 song demo CD in 2001 "Defile the Weak" with Rob Lumbre on Drums and Jeff Hughell on Bass. Mucus played quite a few local shows as a 3 piece including opening slots for Dying Fetus and Nevermore on their national tours. In the summer of 2001 Rob moved to his native guitar and the band recruited Val Valenti on drums. The 4 piece played more shows including the 2001 Milwaukee Metalfest before both Jeff and Rob decided to go their separate ways. At that point Mucus Membrane was temporarily shelved as Tom and Val attempted to form a new band. Unfortunately after 7 months of inconsistent practice Tom decided to reform Mucus due to lack of dedication from the other band members. This brings us to the fall of 2002 where Tom is using all the material he's written in the last 2 years to record a new 15 song full length CD tentatively titled "Shades Below". This promises to be the most brutal yet diverse offering from Mucus to date, so beware! The new CD should be released in the spring of 2003 with a few brand new songs showing up on www.mp3.com/mucusmembrane. Also look for the speed metal tribute CD from Mucus in summer of 2003 with covers from bands like Violence, Kreator, Dark Angel, Exodus, Slayer, and more......
