Artist description
A bunch of Mexicans from south side/ east side San Antonio, TX. We all have various influences; however, our common ground was The Smiths and later Ride. We tried to make the San Antonio scene understand where we were coming from, but they weren't having it. You see, San Antonio is a heavy metal town, and they just didn't get it. We were all old school metal headz as well as punk/hardcore kidz. It just so happened that we matured into what this project transformed into. We were doing what we felt we could do. There are alot of songs that didn't get put out, as well as covers I would have loved to record. We lasted about 4 years trying to get people to listen to what we were doing, but it just wasn't happening. These recording were done at the peak of our musical journey, before the searching for answers to questions that didn't exist within us, but rather in others. We made mistakes and never corrected them or asked for forgiveness. These recordings are all that I can say represents what Mercury Dive was all about. We were reaching out for some form of understanding well before we were reaching out for acceptance. I have only one regret and that is letting the voice be silenced. The music kept on but it said little of understanding. I hope these few meanderings in a studio give you some sense of peace. John Cortez( bass player for the defunct Mercury Dive) |

Artist History
We got together in an ad. We were the Mexican Morrisseys of San Antonio, TX. We played for almost 2 years without a drummer and then for a year without a singer when Brian went away for Airforce boot camp. We waited, and we waited. We picked up a guitar player named Juan, brother to the already lead guitar player Louis. I'm John and I played bass. I answered an add from a band saying that they liked The Smiths and The Cure. I played death metal a year before and was in a hard core band at the time. I thought what the hell, let's see what happens. We lasted 5 years with only a few line up changes. Juan hooked us up with Chris, he was a drummer. He was THE drummer for us. He liked Dream Theatre and Eric Johnson. It was a strange combination. But you know what? It worked. We lasted as this group for about 2 1/2 years. I miss those days. We were the Mexican Morrisseys in our home town. A hodge podge of musical talent swirled together. |
