Artist description
This "globaljazz" quintet presents all original compositions by Dave Flippo. The book also includes American Crawl, an original by saxophonist Dan Hesler. FLIPPOMUSIC' takes pleasure in blending jazz (traditional and free/avant garde) with a multitude of world music styles including Middle East, India, Greece, South America, Jamaica, Pakistan, Indonesia, Asia, North America, Africa and Europe. Each piece tends to limit itself to one or two ethnic languages and, intuitively, blends and mixes elements from both to create a musical hybrid. More traditional original swing and funk tunes such as Colossus, Walking Sideways and Sweet Imp are also thrown into the mix to round out the global journey. |

Press Reviews
"...Part Arabic melody, part Asian harmony, part American bop (and so on), the band creates a sound, a texture and brand of improvisation as exotic as it is original...as fresh and contemporary as it is provocative...in an idiom all its own..." --Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune Flippomusic's Southport release "...actually specializes in fusing jazz (both mainstream and avant garde) with Middle Eastern, Asian, African and Latin sounds. The resulting album is as unpredictable as it is enriching...exceptional, highly recommended..."--Alex Henderson, CD Review MagazineFLIPPOMUSIC'S new release "Ganesh" is "…a work of greater complexity, deeper integration and more subtle expressivity…" Chris Heim, WBEZ 91.5FM Chicago Public Radio. |
