Artist History
1VOICE Who's real name is Ronicle Damone Ellison (Niko) was born in Las Vegas, Nevada to Earnestine Dailey and George Ellison. The youngest in a family of six boys and one girl, Niko was blessed with a large loving family with a great religious foundation. Church and religious values were definitely a way of life in the family household and this exposed Niko to Gospel music and singing during his younger years. But musically, the most influential figure in his life at that time was his father who had found success in the music industry and toured with the Platters in the 70's & early 80's.
After losing his mother to cancer at the tender age of nine, Niko moved from Las Vegas to stay with his grandmother in Arizona. There, under her watchful eye he was encouraged to participate in the church choir and in school athletics. Niko began singing in the latter years of his adolescent life when he took the advice of one of his older brothers and joined his high school choral group. Over the next few years Niko's love for music and performing became more prominent in his life. He was a natural at singing and dancing and soon his talents were being displayed all over the State. He performed solos as well as duets with other members of the 50 plus choral and big band group. Among the highlights of his high school performances were performing in front of a crowd of hundreds at the Arizona State Fair bringing them to there feet as he sang selections from Motown, Top 40, Jazz, and other popular forms of music. He would also compete in the California High School Choral Competition at the Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park were he was phenomenal in helping his school take first place honors. In recognition of his contributions, Niko received top honors at his high schools awards ceremony receiving awards for outstanding male vocalist and outstanding dancer.
Upon graduating high school and enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, Niko's passion for music once again thrust him into the spotlight. While stationed at Travis AFB, California he was accepted into an exceptionally gifted vocal performance group comprised of former Air Force Entertainment Tops In Blue members. Not intimidated by there obvious level of experience and professionalism, Niko excelled while participating in a wide variety of shows around the Bay Area showcasing skills in comedy, theater, as well as participating in the groups choreography and vocal arrangements. During the spring 2000 Niko entered the United States Air Force World Wide Talent Competition in which he wowed the judges and brought home second place male vocalist honors. His dynamic talent and undeniable thirst for success caught the eye of producer Reggie Washington of G. Reggie Reg Productions, Vacaville, California, who would later be instrumental in honing the talents that would earn Niko a contract with Kon Kord Records. Besides developing his own career, Niko's vocal talent was requested by Bay Area rap artists 9-11 to be featured on there up and coming album as well as another compilation CD featuring rap artists from In the Cut Records. After his first album garnered only a small amount of sales Niko decided to leave Kon Kord Records in search of a label that would show a more keen interest in his musical vision and goals. During the summer of 2001 his talent once again caught the eye of producer Michael Thornton of T-Max Studios. He auditioned for Mr. Thornton and was immediately invited to join his Gospel quintet Chosen Generation. Since then, Niko along with Chosen Generation has performed with gospel artists Donnie Mcklurkin, Kurt Carr, Dawkins & Dawkins, Vickie Wynans, and Derrick "DOA" Allen just to name a few. Although Niko has gained plenty of experience over the last year, he is always concentrating on taking his musical abilities to the next level by perfecting his skills as a vocalist and live performer. Niko is currently working on another solo album that will be sure to make a statement. With his velvety voice, good looks, romantic style, and charming demeanor. Niko is destined for stardom.

SONG: THAT'S THE WAY
GENRE: R&B / R&B
SIMILAR: USHER / CRAIG DAVID
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't help but enjoy this song. I mean, who can resist the groove and style of good r&b? If someone says they can, they're lying. 1Voice is a good example of this style at its best.
Bringing out the sound of Usher mixed with the modern sound of British star Craig David, 1Voice has hit the mark with "That's The Way". The beat is smooth and the music light, allowing room for quality vocal stylings. And the rap break in the middle is also well done.
The production on this could use a little work . . . there are some points where aspects of the background should be brought forward in the mix, while sometimes the vocals need to come out more. It isn't a major problem, but working with the mix a bit would definitely improve the sound.
The Final Word
If you like good r&b (and I know you do!) give "That's The Way" by 1Voice a listen today. You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.

SONG: DO YOU THINK?
GENRE: R&B / SOUL
SIMILAR: SHAGGY
Ronicle D. Ellison (Niko) from Fairfield CA. has soul oozing from his body, with his long history of being raised with music from a young age, progressing on to working around music and musicians both in College and in the Forces. He had a very supportive family and started out singing Gospel, where many famous singers began - such as Elvis just to name one. I think it's a good thing having an upbringing in Gospel and good parents you never forget where you started. Especially parents who also have a musical background like Niko's Father who worked with the "Platters". Niko has a string of some big name contacts that've assisted him to further his career and get him where he is today.
1VOICE as Niko is known as has submitted his composition called "Do You Think?" This track is soul groove with the extremely smooth voice of Niko. This song has a clean steady tempo with a loud accented snare and it has the deepest bass I've ever heard. I guess if you were standing in front of the woofers your body would melt from the vibrations.
Complimenting Niko's vocals is a warm keyboard with heavy tremolo playing the bass chords very effectively. If you ask me the whole song reeks of an amorous atmosphere and if you were to put Niko's CD on while entertaining your woman you both wouldn't be separated for long. Let's just say blood pressures would rise to a total high! I can only assume that Niko performs all all the cool harmony and vocal work, which this track is full of.
"Do You Think" will have recording company scouts knocking at Niko's door and he will have no problems marketing this track to the radio stations. The recording quality is pure excellence. I cannot find any flaws on this track, not even a tick! Niko is destined for success. Congrats Niko. |
