Artist History
General was born in Trenton, NJ and spent time living in New Port News, VA. This back and forth living arrangement gave him a unique perspective on life in the hood, as we know it. He grew up in the New York market as well as the Dirty South. This cultural merge is evident in his slang and slick descriptive flow. MC’s and residents of New Jersey gave their state the nickname “Dirty Jersey” as a way to express their street savvy mentality. To Genny, Dirty Jersey means the combination of the Dirty South and NYC, you heard? The General has been blazing the underground scene and local mix-tapes since late 1997. This baby-faced thug is constantly earning the respect of his hip-hop peers every time they hear him spit. His descriptive and slick form of word play has garnered him an underground following that is constantly growing and evolving with his exposure at different venues. A true student of the game, General sought out to follow the lead of former underground groups like The LOX. He realized that underground acceptance and support is important. He also knows that you need to give the people what they want at all times. Most new and inspiring artist get discouraged going through the industry politics, but not General. When some A&R claims they’re feeling him and his lyrics are hot, but they can’t sign anyone this quarter or spit it like so and so and we’ll see. Does that make him STOP? QUIT? FOLD? No, no and no! What’s the formula to combat the “record company people are shady” feelings? There are none. All the General can do is spit harder, spit slicker and spit more creative than the next MC. Presto, you got what makes up the General. He’s leading the wave of new blood in the rap game!General sometimes wonders how did he get here (in this situation) and when his time will come. But he is grateful that local producer “KD” connected him with 13th Floor Entertainment to manage him. The upstart company but veterans in the music game is guiding him in the right direction to reach acceptability at all levels. CEO Troy “All Night” Long feels “This kid (General) got his head screwed on tight and is very talented. Once he gets his opportunity he’s going to add something new to this game.”While preparing for his chance to showcase his talents, General has been honing his MC’ing skill. He understands that the well-rounded artist is more than rhymes; the well-rounded artist has a good stage presence, gives you a good stage show and exonerates personality. These are the traits of a leader, and the General is a leader. To take in further when you hear the vivid pictures he paints with his lyrics, you should know it stems from his fathers death. The pain he felt when his pops got locked up and sent to Trenton State Maximum Security Prison is heard in every verse. To make matters worse, he was only locked up across the street from General’s house! (That’s deep you feel me?) His pops rotted in the same place that Ruben “Hurricane” Carter did. It’s real crazy that he never got to see the streets again and those feelings will never leave him.Still don’t understand what the General is all about? Do you still want to know more? This thing called hip-hop produces many colorful and unique individuals. Talent is sometimes overlooked. Not to belabor any more points or to go into any more background info, the General wants to know why his song is not playing in your system yet? |
