Artist History
If Robert Jansen were a musical pirate, he would be known as "Captain Hook". Sailing the high seas and using the stars as a guide, he would scavenge the world sinking his hook into unsuspecting listeners. Armed with a guitar, ultra-catchy melodies and soaring harmonies, Robert uses clever lyrics and creative musical arrangements to build compositions that are tight and smart.Robert developed a keen interest in the guitar at the age of about 9. Although his father had a right-handed guitar in the house, Robert insisted on flipping the guitar over and playing it left-handed. He became so adept to this, he learned most of the basic chords playing the guitar "upside-down" and even joined his first band playing this way!In the early 80's Robert studied Classical guitar and teamed up with several up and coming musicians to exchange tricks and techniques. Learning at an extremely fast pace, Robert would soon be adding his own 'licks' to the guitar homework.By the late 80's, Robert teamed with high-school chum Lambert Broeren and formed the band Moving Target. Playing rock n' roll covers from the 60’s to the 90’s and original material, Moving Target, played in and around the Ottawa region. After disbanding in the early 90's, Robert used the momentum from the band to continue to write songs.Today, Robert uses the Internet as a vehicle to promote his music and gain familiarity. Engineered, recorded and produced at his residence, Robert’s debut CD - My Oasis has been well received by fans and fellow artists around the world. But this is only the beginning… |

Press Reviews
Get this guy outta my head! Now don't get me wrong - I dig this disc. But the addictive vocal harmony and opening guitar riff of track #2, "I Waited For You," is just to strong to resist. It's even got my wife and daughter hummin' it too! It almost put me off the road when it started. Use caution when listening to it in your car.And that's just for starters. The kick-off groove-laden "I'm Free" has the perfect balance of melody, crunch and lyrics. Throw in #4, "Please," and "My Oasis" qualifies as a nominee in anyone's Album of the Year award. It's so very good to see Canadian artists making this kind of music again. Far too many bands from the Great White North are following trends and playing whatever the market demands. Robert is making great music to please himself, and that's the key to great songwriting. But don't consider him just as a Canadian artist - to me he's a world class act. And since he plays everything on the disc himself... well to achieve that kind of tightness when you play everything yourself is a feat itself. All of the songs on My Oasis are damn good and deserve much more attention that just the outlets on the Internet have to offer. Get this guy on mainstream radio and TV... A.S.A.P.This CD is probably more addictive than cocaine. And this is a bet: you WILL hum "Please" or "...Waited..." more than any of today's Top 40 tunes. And that's a fact. |
