Artist History
From web bio - Guitarplayer Kurt Vanderhoof, born by Dutch (!!) immigrants, founds in 1979 inSan Francisco his first band. Band members come and go, and the bands AnvilChorus, Leviathan and Metal Church swap members like in a game of cards. Then, end of '82 Metal Church completely split up, Vanderhoof moves to Seattle, andfounds cover-band Shrapnel. When he finally has a good line up, With DavidWayne on vocals, and Wells, Erickson and Arrington, he renames the band Metal Church and starts to play own songs. They record demo's and thisleads to a place on the compilation albums "Metal Massacre V" and "NorthwestMetalfest", both released in 1984. Later in the same year the small companyGround Zero releases the debut album "Metal Church". This record is a smashhit, and also thanks to their friends from Metallica, they get a contract withElektra. End of '85 this debut is remastered and the rest of the world canenjoy Metal Church with their good compositions, tight playing and variation. The band gets a big budget to record the second album, "No Exit", with evenbetter composition, but less real ups, and a bit more into speed metal. In a bigtour with Metallica they make worldwide a good impression. Rumours that DavidWayne has left the band (something he has done more than once, but he alwaysreturned) are correct, when Mike Howe is presented as the new singer. Howe isfrom Heretic and met Vanderhoof during recordings of the Heretic album"Breaking Point", produced by Vanderhoof. He decides from now on only tocompose songs and produce albums. He's replaced by John Marshall, a previousMetallica-roadie and member of the band Blind Illusion. In 1989 the third albumis released: "Blessing in Disguise" |
