Press Reviews
Review Oct. 2000, "When I heard "Fools On Parade" just once, my whole sense of music and poetics was put on notice. Aside from the production--could those strings be anything but perfect in their placement?--could the sound effects be any more atmospheric and downright musical?--could the opening piano be any more thematic--etcetera ad nauseum--so, aside from all that, the lyrics, the theme and the poetic color of this is nothing short of spectacular." Mp3.com June '99 "When I listen to Mark McInerney, I picture a guy in a studio for hours meticulously working out songs to the nth degree. That level of perfection is something we all try to achieve, but this one-man army somehow does it. It sounds as if Mark ingested pieces of Beatles and Beach Boys records like a sweet tooth craves candy. "Are You Ready" kicks off his Whitman's Sampler-like page with a pure dose of pop like Eric Matthews. The sunny harmonies nicely fill out the simplicity of the verse, then Mark garnishes this with a neat clarinet chromatic run a la "Mr. Kite". The song has a great bridge that shows his musical range, without impeding the idea of the simple, happy, summery pop song to take all your cares away."Artist Review,Nov.'99 "Let me just say this now...and everyone else whom I've reviewed thus far do not hold a grudge, 'cause yer all fantastic, but Jesus H. Christ, Mark McInerny! Where have you been? Obviously all over the place...I can't give you enough "stars" or "points on a scale" to do you justice. You hit my sweet spot. F'in great music, man Truly. I wish you all the best. Someone give me a powder." Jan. 2001Jan 2001, New Music Magazine "Da Nang is a piece filled with sublime music and lyric imagery. Mark McInerney is a young composer to watch. Haunting." |
