Artist description
JoJo is a San Francisco based Rock band. BAM Magazine says, Jojo's tremendous success on the San Francisco live circuit is testimony to the group's strengths: effortless power-pop hooks, alternately crunching and chiming guitars and zesty melodies. With its latest release, American Girl, the charismatic quartet rattles out 10 diligently crafted tunes that pick at nearly every era of pop history, from Badfinger to Material Issue. The effect is made complete by singer Alex Cunningham's elastic voice, which inspires comparisons to Cheap Tricks's Robin Zander. Classic is a prime slab of exhilarating guitar noise, a specialty with this group. But Jojo works just as well in quieter moments, as on the slow-burning title track, which stands as one of the best things they've come up with so far. |

Press Reviews
SF Chronicle wrote: JUDGING BY the sexually provocative stares from certain members of the audience in the steamy jungle that was the Paradise Lounge on a peculiarly warm Friday night earlier this summer, Jojo have tapped into one of the basic tenets of Rawk Stardom: Sex=Rawk... Close-cropped, bleached-blond singer-guitarist Alex Cunningham, possessed of a smooth, expressive baritone and a Gavin Rossdale, I-can't-help-it-if-I'm-sexy swagger, commanded the attentions of the adoring crowd as Jojo ripped through a set of originals that proved the band unafraid to make a decidedly metallic rock noise baited with industrial-strength fishing hooks. |
