Press Reviews
"Grond: Cold Northern Epochs" is Andrew's best creation to date - these four tracks (two of them covers) of cold, raw and sinister Black Metal are highly recommended to those who shun the slick sonorities of COVENANT and CRADLE OF FILTH and hunger for the aural snowblizzards of DARKTHRONE, HAVOHEJ and MAYHEM. This is the spirit of the Norwegian Black Metal underground filtered through the dark, long, frigid nights of Canada; an authentic, monochrome, fuzzed-up, primitive, coarsely-produced affront to the ears (and I mean that in the best possible sense). This demo contains the hell-ravaged, frost-bitten sound that got me into underground Black Metal in the first place. "Grond: Cold Northern Epochs" opens with "Maelstrom", a mid-paced and coldly melodic affair written by HELCARAXE. The vocals sound like they are crackling out of a faulty loudspeaker quacking over a forsaken stretch of whistling tundra. I like the dryly rattling sound of the drums (courtesy Morris) as well, sounds as if they are being played with heavy icicles. |
