Artist History
The exploration of unknown territory has always been the driving force in the work of artist/composer Kubilay Üner. Born and raised in Munich, Germany, he studied classical composition and the music of the experimental avant garde in Cologne, Germany, as well as world music, electronic music and recording technology at CalArts. He played bass in Brazil with numerous acts while spending a year there as an exchange student, and later produced songs for such diverse artists as Bobby Womack, Mexican chanteuse Perla Batalla and actor/singer Herbert Groenemeyer (of Das Boot fame).Living in Los Angeles since 1990, he also composed the music for eight feature films, including Cupid (Showtime), The Killing Grounds (Cinemax) and The Night Caller (The Movie Channel). -When scoring a film, you have to use whatever conveys the mood or the emotion of the scene best. This has definitely opened up my music to include all kinds of stylistic and sonic elements in order to score the visual images.- When the desired effect cannot be obtained by traditional means, Kubilay Üner designs and builds custom sounds and instruments, or modifies and processes existing ones. |
