Artist description
Singer/songwriter Evan Reeves blends acoustic music and poetry into his songs, drawing on artistic influences that range from Pete Seeger to Paul McCartney, and Dylan Thomas to Robert Frost. He sings with a soft, soothing voice, and plays a variety of instruments including, acoustic, electric, and nylon string guitars, banjo, percussion and harmonica. His first album, the eponymous titled, Evan Reeves, presents an eclectic mix of folk, pop, and cowboy music, and a tinge of spoken word. This album offers selections that are intimate, spotlighting the artist and his guitar; as well as upbeat selections, which reveal layered arrangements with full instrumentation and various contributing artists. Contains the single, "Mother Mother." |

Press Reviews
***I'm most struck in the first listen by the variety and the relaxed feel. Listenable, playful, loose...David Roth, Seattle***This is a terrific record, unabashed acoustic folk in a very electric age. Makes it sound a little edgy and risky, even. Excellent songwriting and fine hooks, which bring a lot of classic tunes to mind but don't rip anyone off. I particularly like the sophisticated attack in the songs, poking deep into love and life and totally avoiding the "oh ain't love grand" simplicities...a thoughtful and tuneful album. We likes. Mr.Cyrano. ***A Thoreau Examination:Evan Reeves' poetry and song lyrics are a refreshing return to sincerity in an age of chic cynicism. It was a privilege to work with him on editing some of the lyrics which eventually became this album. The Thoreau and Frost-inflected ideas and Beatlesque sense of structure renew one's faith in the power of songs.Joseph McCombs, Assoc. Producer, RadioSpy.com***Folk songs and poetry from a singer who matches his pleasantly light voice with unobtrusive music that skips along. - Tim Quirk, Listen.com |
