Artist description
Clokwork kneed together rap, funk, electronica, metal and voice sampling to explore a ridiculous pop culture cross section. They offer a diluted left wing ideology inside a package of post-modern cynicism. Sometimes disgusting, sometimes funny but mostly disturbing. |

Artist History
In the twighlight of 1992, four young men came together to attempt to fuse disparate styles into a marketable piece of pop culture. The early years of the band were hindered by public ambivalence and the unproffesional attitude of the band. But by 1995 they had managed to develop a distinctive raw nastiness not dissimilar to 'Rage Against the Machine', although it was diluted by a tendency to explore Prog Rock structures. In 1995 the band won the Newcastle University Band Competition, and was able to record its first EP 'Product'. Afterwards Guitarist Jamie McKenzie and Drummer Igor Pirozzi, left the band for a variety of musical and personal differences. Singer John Bon Normal and Bass player Rhys'baby'Rose recruited Guitarist Tommy Rock and Drummer Uncle Pete and started exploring Sample laced Progressive Pop. After a years rehersal and enthusiastic live gigging Clokwork went into the studio and created the 'Crumbed Clokwork Schnitzel', a jitterbug of pop/political tension. The group continued writing andperforming in the Newcastle region, attracting an eclectic audience, as unsure of what they wanted as the band themselves. By the begining of 1998, Bass player Rhys'Baby'Rose, could no longer live the life of rock'n'roll excess for which the band had become infamous for. Under a cloud of disappointment the group recorded the collection of songs they had been building since the Schnitzel, and archived it. This has just become available here at MP3.com, under the title 'Clokwork Greatest Hits'. The remaining three members went on to create The PRteam, but that's another story. |
