Artist History BIO --- Brenda Kahn and the release of Hunger --- by Brenda Kahn --- I am a singer/songwriter with five records to date, based in New York City. My first record was on a Brooklyn independent label, (Comm3/Goldfish Don't Talk Back) for which I did my own press and radio promotion, booked tours and played shows throughout the Midwest and East Coast (I was living in Minneapolis then). I recorded and self produced a seven inch single for Crackpot records in Minneapolis. And moved back to New York City, at which point I was signed to Columbia Records by David Kahne (now head of A&R at Reprise/WB). I was signed on the merit of one of the two songs on the seven inch (I Don't Sleep I Drink Coffee Instead). --- Columbia had just started an imprint label named Chaos/Columbia and my 2nd record (Epiphany in Brooklyn) was released by them in 1992. I toured all over the world, and had the great fortune to play shows with some of my personal heroes; The Kinks, David Byrne, and Bob Dylan. In Oct-Nov 1994, after recording my second record for Columbia (Destination Anywhere) I did a two month promotional tour opening for Jeff Buckley across the US and Canada. --- In January of 1995, Chaos was folded, David Kahne left the Columbia label, and I was dropped two weeks before the release date of my third record. This was a bad day for Brenda Kahn. Columbia would not give back my record, only license it to another label, and eventually Shanachie (shan-uh-key) Records did release Destination Anywhere. In the interim, I released my second vinyl seven inch,
