Artist History SMST was formed in the winter of 1999/2000. They were originally a pop/rock band, or more accurately, a funk band trapped in the body of a pop/rock band. This crisis of identity proved problematic as the band's frontman wanted to continue playing pop. So eventually the nucleus of the band, Josh, Mat, and Kurtis parted ways with the old frontman to form Soul Monkey Sperm Tribe.In the fall of 2000, they placed 2nd in a local Battle of the Bands and recorded their first EP which will be available in the summer of 2001.
