Artist History
Patchwork Monkey was first formed in the fall of 2000, when drummer Devin Larsen and guitarist/vocalist Jason Aguiar started playing together to pass time in the small town of Fillmore, Utah. "We were in previous bands together, and the other members lived over a hundred miles away. Though very enjoyable, it was hard to practice as a total band." says Jason. "We would practice together to keep from being bored. Devin and I laid down a couple of tracks, and it just took off from there." After a couple weeks, they had a few songs, while Jarad would come over, hang out, and listen to us practice. "A few days later, Jarad was spinning vinyl for us. It was really cool!" says Jason. Soon Patchwork Monkey teamed up with poet Clint Aguiar. Clint provided a lot of the lyrics for the songs. "Clint had some poems we really liked, and we decided to put music to them. Though we had lyrics of our own, Clint's keen manipulation of words really helped enhance our songs," Jason says. "He is a master of combining honesty with just a bit of sarcasm. It's great!" After working in their studio for about five months, "The Ides of March," their debut cd was finally completed. All of the recording and producing was done by the band. "By doing it ourselves, we were able to have total creativity and freedom in the direction we wanted the music to go. Sometimes you can't afford to do that in a large studio. Now, we have to hit the road while spreading the word. Hopefully someone out there will appreciate our sound." |
