Press Reviews
A KC original, J.D. Summers is changing the face of music in Kansas City. The promising young entertainer has been capturing the attention of audiences around town and on the web with his unique and enlightened brand of blues rock. J.D’s electric stage performance demonstrates a primitive power and soulful undercurrent that leaves even the audience worn out after a show.
“For anyone who loves to hear and see a guy lay it on every time he walks on stage, You MUST check him out.”
John Schmidt, Kansas City Mo , May 2001
“I started out at the young age of 4.” says J.D., who was influenced by an eclectic mix of musical mentors including Dizzy Gilespie, Michael Jackson and Muddy Waters. When his dad gave him a guitar it became evident music lived in his soul : “I had the world at my fingertips,” he says, and J.D. spent countless hours in his teenage years pounding on the keyboard and jamming on his acoustic.
Today his style is the old electric blues of the greats like, Stevie Ray, and B.B. King. His intensity explodes with that soulful growl in the (what we like to call the) “smoking part” of Stormy Monday. And he has been compared to the likes of jam buddy Kenny Wayne Shepard.
But J.D. Summers is never more masterful and intense than when he performs his original work. He literally owns the stage when he does the honest and inspirational “ Song title” And audiences love his hard-charging style when he sings “ another original..” “But no matter what I do, I always give it a touch of soul.”says J.D.
“If you love the rhythm of the blues you’ve got to listen to his original stuff…I promise…You will be entertained to say the least.”
Greg Plaza, Kansas City, Kansas, July 2001
