Artist History
Alex’s musical roots began at the age of eight as he spent four years training on the clarinet at Fairleigh Dickinson Music Program. During his teenage years his attention turned towards traditional rock and roll instrumentation; buoyed by his love for rock and funk music, he mastered drums and guitar without any formal instruction. At the University of Virginia, Alex began to focus on developing his songwriting and vocal abilities. He sang in and led an a cappella group, Choose, while continuing to maintain his other musical interests as drummer for Black Voices, a popular gospel choir. Encouraged by friends who witnessed his newfound passion for songwriting and singing, Alex opened himself up to the idea of solo performance. He began his solo career in November 1999 at the Prism Coffeehouse in Charlottesville, Virginia, when he performed for the first time as a soloist at their monthly Open Mic night. Since then it has been an exciting time of growth and development for the young singer/songwriter from Falls Church, Virginia. Along the way, he recorded “Here Am I” his debut EP, independently released in August 2000. Since graduating in May 2000, he has relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia. In only a few months he established himself as a talented new artist by performing at First Colony Coffeehouse and various Young Life clubs. In early November 2000, Alex participated in Sanctuary Music Ministries’ Christian Artist Showcase where he was selected as a Grand Prize Winner. He will be featured on their New Artist Demo along with six other recipients of grand prize awards. Look for the demo in Heaven and Earth bookstores in mid-2001! |
