Artist description
Ulterior Motives was un-plugged before "un-plugged" was a musical buzzword. This band had two simultaneous identities as an alternative Christian Rock group with retro roots, yet at the same time began performing the same set in churches and coffee houses with their unique blend of acoustic blues and jazz influenced vocal harmonies. |

Artist History
Ulterior Motives started in 1988 under the leadership of former Bash-n-the Code guitarist, Mark Townsend. Together with two old friends, Craig Howard and Gary Will, they began performing throughout the Midwest. They were joined by another former Basher, Gary Williams, in late 1990. In 1992 Craig departed and a second guitarist, Scott Walton, was added. About that time the acoustic version of U.M. was born. The band was much in demand until the mid-90's when Mark joined up with Sparrow artist Steve Taylor for his year-long Squint tour. The acoustic recording sessions captured the true essence of these four musicians at their very best. Whatever happened to the "plugged in" session tapes? That remains a mystery to this day. |
