Artist description
"I guess if you were to classify us into one specific style, we'd tell you (as it says) that we play 'skate-rock'. Now, to fully understand us, you'd need to picture a band like Matchbox 20 or Lit, fusing together with NOFX and Green Day, and then on top of all that, loving Jesus. That's us. We're slowly moving into the mind frame of 'who cares,' which just means that when we say 'we can't do that in a song, it wouldn't be our style,' in turn we say, 'who cares,' and we do it. That kind of thinking makes for some pretty enjoyable music." |

Artist History
So it all started with a talent show. Three years ago, Steve, Jonathon, and Nick came together with one plan: make a song for the school talent show. They'd been kind of playing around with some ideas, but until the show came up, they hadn't sat down to write songs. This was a big step. Throwing a jumbled mess of chords together, they prepared for the big night. The crowd was pumped, the lights were flashing (well, about as flashing as budget high school lights can flash) and it was now "our turn" as the band said. They played the song. They failed.Needless to say, the three musical rebels were terribly disappointed with their first public performance and decided that forming a band was a dumb idea. So a few months later, they came back together with some ideas God had given Nick, determined to play music to lift up Jesus, and gave it another try. For a year, with a decent set of songs, the Ninjas played concerts, talent shows and made a low-quality, independent demo CD. The day finally came, however, when God inspired a song requiring a second guitarist. Thus, the induction of Jacob, hence the album title. With the induction of Jake, the style of SweatshopNinjas' music changed drastically from pop/alternative rock to fun, fast skate-rock. This was an inevitable transition due to the fact that skate-rock was a favorite of the members. In September of 2000, the Ninjas set out for another recording, eager to get the new music on CD. The final product was slowly finished in February 2001.To make a long story short, the Ninjas have grown into a Jesus-loving band with a skate over-tone; much experience with performing, learning something new every time; a heart for ministry, taking our role in the kingdom seriously; four members, with an audience of one: Jehovah. |
