Artist History
In the year 1993, former Roto-To members Bernardo (guitarist, composer)and Luis (drummer, composer) formed a "high school" band along with other friends. The unnamed band didn't last long, and in search of each one of the members' personal careers, each member went their own way. But Bernardo and Luis still keeped jaming and composing, and a little while after they paired with bassist Pepe.Under the influence of the well known grunge scene, the only thing missing in the trio was a singer. In 1994, singer Marcelo Silveira joined the band.Playing on local parties with other bands, the group, known as Falla Temporal (Temporal Failure) jammed trough Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Alice in Chains covers, as well as original songs. But in search of a unique sound, the former trio decided to split and continue their evolution process. In 1997 the trio grouped with guitarist and friend Gabriel Salinas, as well as singer David Hurtado. The new band was called Hemp. Altough none of the members have ever tried drugs, the name came after the unreal allucinations such herb produced as described in modern literature. The new band focused purely in original material written and composed by the former trio, while David himself wrote the lyrics to some of the songs. The band did some appearances with success in famous local pubs, such as "El Cafe Iguanas" and others. It also became a part of the "WoodsTec" concert organized by the campus in wich most of its members were studying. The concert featured a wide list of local bands. In 1999 the band reached its end again because of each of its members' own personal life projects. However, Bernardo, Luis and Pepe still kept composing and jamming ocassionaly while evolving each of the previous composed songs. In the year 2000, with the hype of digital audio and computer based music production, new experimentation took place. The idea of mixing various music genres, as well as using new available technology in order to achieve a unique sound took a heavy notice. But time and commitment as well as missing musicians to form another bandwere a problem. That's where the idea of Roto-To arrived. Roto-To is not a band, instead Roto-To is the project of the former trio, as well as a few invited underground artists. The Roto-To proyect is the result of Bernardo, Luis and Pepe's love to modern music, adapted to today's fast passing time. |
