Artist History
After an early musical upbringing that included an older brother who played amongst the likes of Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, New Riders of the Purple Sage and more, and an older sister that played ragtime piano and sang opera, Max started his first band when he was eight years old and went on in later years to play stages in San Francisco alongside contemporaries such as Talking Heads, Devo, Blondie, etc. His avant-garde Art/Rock musical collaboration, Zru Vogue, had it's first recording voted the "Best Independent Single" of the year by Sub-Pop Magazine. Max has done film soundtrack work ranging from film trailers for MGM to an award winning feature film in 1998. With his former Zru Vogue bandmate Z. Blue, Max released "BoneJar-Flowers From A Freaky World", a CD heard on college radio stations in the U.S. during the late 1990's and since then via the internet, has gained fans from all over the world. Featuring Robin Williamson, former member of the Incredible String Band, on the CD's finale, the music brought high critical praise and comparisons to some of music's legendary names. Max has recorded several independently released solo CD's which have brought yet more of the same response that his collaborative work has received. Currently Max is working on a new independent CD release due out in 2002. |

Press Reviews
(BoneJar-Flowers From A Freaky World CD 1995) "...a soothing combination of mellow John and Yoko, a little Everything But The Girl and a touch of Annie Lennox." -Internet Music Review. ". " provides the boat for listeners' mind to drift off into musical bliss...can be played on radio as easily as anything Bryan Ferry has ever penned." - Campus Circle Magazine. (Max Tyrell CD 1997) "If John Lennon were alive and young today, this is probably what he would sound like" - CDReviews.com. (Unseen Worlds-Songs of the Spirit CD 1999) "... I can certainly hear the Eno and the Gabriel seeping out between the grooves of the cd, and it pleases me. I'm smiling. Right now. I'm listening to 'Beautiful' which is correctly named. The sounds that swirl and bubble among the multi-voices is an experimental reaction in love song making. Drum and high hat programming in and out of instruments I can't even begin to name." - The Muse's Muse. Then there is the power of the hypnotist from 'Neon Lights (and all that jazz)' which tells me that Max is going to be the next Eno if he keeps this up. |
