Artist History
Digger T Tozzi was born in New York on July 4,1949.Digger Ts major childhood musical influences came from his father,Joseph P. Tozzi who played trumpet and his uncles,Arty and Charlie Muller who introduced the guitar and washtub.A devoted Dylan fan as a teenager,Digger learned to play guitar and rack mount harp in the late sixties, eventually refining his technique from the likes of James Cotton,Jr. Wells,Sonny Boy Williamson,Sonny Terry and Little Walter,to name a few. There were no books or tapes back then and he cut deep grooves in his records playing them over and over until he got it right. Also a skilled carpenter,Digger is well known for his amazing abilities to restore and replicate vintage amp cabinets.Providing for a family of five,Digger has had to be resourceful. Finally, after thirty years, blues music has finally become his livelihood and there is no stopping him now. After several decades of perfecting his sound,Digger T. says,it took a long time and a lot of amps to find out that its not important what you use the sound comes from you.He usually playes Honer Special 20's through and Astatic J-T 30 and an old Fender Bassman.Digger T has recently teamed up with Chicago Bob Hess and together they are truly the (dynamic duo) |

Press Reviews
Time's running out to hear Didder T. before he moves to N.Y. Local blues man Digger T. and his Highway Blues Band is hitting the road for New York City. One of the last opportunities to see this magnetic performer in this area will be tonight from 8 o'clock to midnight at Marties on Broadway in Myrtle Beach. Sunday's regular performances at Gypsys will continue through Sept.3, his last show.If you have never heard Digger T. and the Highway Blues Band, These next few weeks may very well be your last chance. Digger plays harp like no other. He goes from short, intense, breathy notes to a wail that burns your soul.Digger said he sometimes blows out three harps a night. The notes he blasts through his harmonicas slide through your ears, into the depths of your mind and then fiannly rest in your heart.I haven't mentioned his voice. If you don't know Digger, you can look into those twinkling eyes and tell that he is up to something mischievous almost like a private joke. His voice has the same quality. He always sounds like he's getting ready to laugh over a joke wispered in his ear, or a comedy unfolding in the audience. Maybe it's just the genuine love of music and entertaining that comes through every show.Digger, a Long Island,N.Y., native, is leaving for the bright lights of New York, where he will playing with another group of seasoned blues men. Digger said "If you want to know where I am ( In N.Y. ) followl the claw marks in the road from where I'll be draggin'my wife," Eliza Hilliard The Times,Georgetown,S.C. , Friday,September 1,2000 |
