Press Reviews
"...free jazz and hardcore fusion dominated by an astonishing kind of Splatter Prog... inexhaustible musical invention, from high speed guitay and percussion pile-ups to free jazz blowouts and Ambient pieces interrupted by blasts of furious activity." -- The Wire Upsilon Acrux show a refreshing ability to reference artists from Robert Fripp to John Coltrane with crushing irreverence. Maybe the last of the cool guitar bands." --Exclaim! (Canada) "How malleable can creativity be these days? This group of mutant, spasmodic avant-garde jazz rockers exhibits two sides of its creative brain... The only thing that can be expected from these San Diegans is the unexpected, as it's anyone's guess as to what happens when 'propeller guitars,' pocket trumpets and violas collide! Hey, any band where the innocuous sounding 'ambient-destructo-bass' is credited as an instrument had better deliver the goods, and Upsilon Acrux do just that, in an inspiring and exhilarating fashion." --Splendid E-zine |
