Artist History
Situation Down formed way back in the summer of 1999. Ronnie and Hummer were friends at school. Ronnie and Dave eventually became friends from school, which led to Dave and Mike becoming friends. Then Ronnie and Dave met Mike at Berkots while working and the band foundation was formed. Everyone was young and pretty untalented at the time, having only been playing their respective instruments for a short time up till then. At first they mostly just fooled around and jammed, only being a band in name. Actually names. The band changed names every week it seamed including, but probably not limited to, Mokena Wangers, Skankspank, Garp, Neuro Blast, Prepkill, Dfekt 60, Left Leg Infektion, and Isolophobic before settling on Situation Down.
The original line-up had Mike and Ronnie as a twin-guitar attack. Ronnie reluctantly did vocals since no one else wanted to, with the plan being that he would only temporarily do it till they found a dedicated vocalist. That never happened and Ronnie eventually took up vocal duties full time. At various times, Mike or Dave did lead vocals on a song, but they gave up those duties to Ronnie to give the band more consistancy.
Eventually some original material was created and recorded on a simple stereo with a cheap built-in mic. The quality was very poor, but it was cool nonetheless. A simple no-budget CD, entitled My Mom Made My Retarded, was made from these low-quality recordings (maybe a dozen total) and given to friends, school mates, or co-workers who were interested. In retrospect, it really sucked hardcore, both recording quality and song writing.
Then everything changed, for the better, in the late spring / early summer of 2001. Suddenly the band was able to practice more (though still not enough), more was accomplished during practice, and everyone performed at their best level at all times. This led to a much improved sound and over-all more complete songs. Chewy involved himself with the band, doing everything from - taking pictures, recording, setting us up on mp3.com, getting better equipment, motivation, and more. Over the summer we made MANY recordings, which aiding in helping the band better establish their sound and structure their songs.
Recordings are now done with real mics, a mixer, and a pimped out computer that Chewy built. With a demo in the works, concerts scheduled, and t-shirts made, Situation Down is finally on its way. |
