    Artist description
Bearing a distinct sonic signature unlike any in recent memory, Rick Bain and the Genius Position's psychedelic sound is at times akin to that of Pink Floyd and Radiohead, yet unbalanced with a straight up rock and roll beat. Rick Bain writes unpretentious lyrics that sneak up on you, rich with heartfelt testament and vivid imagery, which are nonetheless invitingly melodic and easy to sing along with. The band's recordings are genuinely warm and sexy, while maintaining an innocent, down to earth presence.

    Artist History
Rick Bain- a seasoned guitar player who has experienced every pet sound and been to the dark side of the moon, Joe Kaczmarek- an aluminum siding salesman with a Hammond organ with a side of Leslie, Eric Pfau- a man of science with an ARP Odyseey, and Clayton Jones- a seasoned drummer from the depths of the Portland music scene. Friends for years, these unlikely candidates for rock and roll managed a coup d'grace of sorts, in the highly competitive battle for the hearts and minds of the Portland, Oregon music scene. This qjuintet known as Rick Bain and the Genius Position, captivated native audiences with their unique textured sound, growing into a local treasure within those late months of 1998. Little did the band konw that this local acclaim would, two years later, culminate with a critically acclaimed debut record and a U.S. tour. For the better part of the Summer of 2000, Rick Bain and his fellow Geniuses went on a U.S. tour with Capitol Records recording artists (and Portland familiars) The Dandy Warhols. The two band bill played fourteen shows, selling out the Bowery Ballroom in New York, as well as packing venues to the rafters in Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. A few months later, they followed that up with a successful West Coast follow up tour.

    Press Reviews
Willamette Week: A welcome down-country thud moves songs like "Rapture" along at a good clip, while most of the rest of the tracks bask contentedly in a wide-open lightness that recalls the Beach Boys or Oasis. The Oregonian A&E: Rick Bain has recently been touted as "Portland's new six-string messiah".www.181-4.com: Taking a journey back to the land of 70's guitars Rick Bain and the Genius Position have methodically crafted an album of mellow rhythms and sumptuous melodies. Scaling all that is lofty within the world of atmospheric music, Crooked Autum Sun pursues an energetic though peaceful agenda, whilst remaining reassuringly technology free. More importantly it does this without sounding dated or at all cliche.
