Artist description
The music of Miami indie band Trotsky?s Revenge doesn't rely on gimmicks or trends; they have faith in the power of a well-crafted song. Sometimes it?s soft and tender, more often uptempo, loud and raucous. The melodies, constructed with idiosyncratic chord progressions, well-placed guitar solos, and bittersweet harmonies provide an alluring background for wicked tales of relationships walking a tightrope. The tunes are rich with energetic rhythms; cascading bass-playing; jangling guitars occasionally made just a bit chunkier with classic effects like a wah-pedal; and high, slightly-angsty vocals. Trotsky?s songs don?t need heavy distortion to create an energetic and mesmerizing effect.Imagine the Smiths? guitarist Johnny Marr borrowing Eddie Cochran?s big, hollow-bodied Gretsch. Suppose Paul, John and George had met Keith Moon instead of Ringo. What if Radiohead, Guided By Voices, and Can engaged in a menage a trois? Perhaps the bastard spawn might resemble Trotsky?s Revenge. |

Artist History
The lineage of indie rock band Trotsky?s Revenge can be traced along a well-travelled path through the Florida rock scene. Principal singer/songwriter/guitarist Juan Carlos "J.C." Rodriguez and drummer Scott Deems anchored the seminal late-1980s punk band Naughty Puritans, sharing the scene with a virtually unknown Marilyn Manson, The Mavericks and members of Less Than Jake. The Puritans released two recordings and opened live sets for such heavyweights as The Damned, Social Distortion, The Flaming Lips and Buffalo Tom. Following the Puritans? split in 1990, J.C. began touring as a soloist until 1993, when he and childhood friend and bassist Wayne Farrell formed Cavernlads, a Britpop band. Some years later, Scott Deems rejoined the fold. The Lads gigged throughout the South Florida area and, following Farrell?s departure to greener and wetter pastures in Seattle, the duo found themselves needing competent players to flesh out their burgeoning original song repertoire. Responding to a classified ad in 2000, guitarist Marcelo Zinn joined the lineup. From an early age, he developed his innovative musicianship from his grandfather, a concert violist living in Brazil. Bassist Carlos Gonzalez--a veteran from the Minnesota twin-cities music scene--and the Trotsky's Revenge quartet was made complete. |
