Press Reviews
The Silent Groove laid down grooves that were anything but silent; vocalist/guitarist Matt Zeigler rhymed his way around jams which varied mostly between funk and jazz, with an occasional ska twist. The overall effect was modern and fun, occasionally reminiscent of G Love or Sublime during the Ska-tinged numbers like "Lady Lady", during which Matt switched from his bright, old-school rapping style to quick, rhythmic singing, very much in the style of Brad Nowell. Zeigler demonstrated his credibility at rhyming during two freestyle numbers, one a spontaneous duel with unplanned guest rapper Strike, and the other a humorous finale, during which audience members were invited to spill their pockets to provide the subject matter for his lyrics. Zeigler rhymed smoothly about a wrench, a Werther's Original, and a Capri Sun drink, among other volunteered artifacts. The whole band remained tight throughout, demonstrating formidable jazz chops and positive energy, moving with the music and partaking in humorous onstage banterCentral ,Ct State "The Recorder" |
