Artist History
Since graduating from Princeton University, Long Island natives Pete LaMantia and Scott Kassel (aka SIKE Boogie and Red Devil) have been paying their dues in the New York City music scene. They have performed in front of some of the toughest crowds in the world, and have earned the respect of critics everywhere. SIKE was an ALL-City basketball star in Queens, NY, who developed both his handle and his mic skills on the playgrounds of the five boroughs. Producer/emcee Red Devil has been digging in the crates since the days of roller-skating at Laces. They are, without a doubt, two of the most unique unsigned artists around, their music a breath of fresh air to those who cherish creativity and originality. Here is a list of some of their experiences together as ROCK STARS…In 1998 the STARS were selected from a pool of 800 acts as one of six finalists in the DiscMakers Independent Music World Series. After rocking a packed house at the legendary Tramps in NYC, The Village Voice called the performance “astounding”.In 1999 they were featured in the Long Island VOICE as one of the most “promising unsigned acts” in the tri-state area. In 2001 the STARS were chosen as one of the ten finalists (from a pool of 500) in the EARS Talent Showcase, the largest live audition showcase of urban music in NYC. In addition, you can find the ROCK STARS’ names scrawled on the bathroom walls of such fine establishments as Wetlands Preserve, Arlene Grocery, Shine, the Spiral Lounge, ACME Underground, and the Nuyorican Poets Café, all spots they have rocked over the years.
