Artist History
The Lakeside Rebar story starts with getting dumped. Back in the summer of '98, Jamie Barnett and Mark McClusky both had their romantic lives take a turn for the worse. So, they did what one does: they got out their guitars and started writing. Throughout the long New York City summer, the pair wrote and recorded demos of dozens of songs, filled with heartache and alcohol. When they emerged, they called on friends, acquaintances, and even complete strangers, and the Rebar family grew. More recordings were made. Shows were played -- as an acoustic duo, as a trio, even an appearance at the Continental in New York at a Tom Waits tribute show. But soon, the West Coast beckoned. Jamie and Mark left New York behind and moved to San Francisco. Through luck and bribery, they added an amazing drummer, Jason Smith, and a tasteful lead guitarist, Jonathan Davis, to the band. Lakeside Rebar was finally complete and raring to go. In the months since, Rebar has been writing and refining songs, drinking lots of beer, and playing their first shows in San Francisco. Their roots-pop music rips your heart out, buys you a Bud, and tosses its arm around your shoulder to commiserate. |
