Press Reviews
Jaya - Something for everyoneby Adaggio G. ClefMusic to lift, transcend the mind, body, spirit and soul...and most of all, to get you dancing!Jaya's first CD (also entitled Jaya) has the ability to do all that and more. It doesn't matter if you don't understand a word of any of the Eastern Indian chants, Jaya's unique musical style will get you up and moving on the very first cut.Sri Da Om, the first song on the CD begins with the smokey voice of Australian born Stephan Blas whose beautifully modulated sound will reach you at your core as he repeatedly chants the title phrase. He is then joinedby Jacqueline Clemons, Debra Helleren, Mel McMurrin and JoAnne Sunshine in a perfect blend of sensuality and harmony in vocal form. (I remember hearing this song for the first time about a week or two ago and haven't been able to get it out of my head since.)Each of the songs that follow maintain the flow and intensity of the first without a single break in tone or flavor.A new and delightful twist is that the instrumentals are more akin to club music...which strangely enough does not detract from this particular style of singing, but rather enhances it.The band has recently wrapped up after touring in Seattle, Chicago, New York, Boston and San Franscisco following the release of the CD in December 2000.To find out more about Jaya or order a CD, go to www.jayamusic.com. You can also download a sample of their songs as a preview before you buy!I give Jaya a music rating of:A full 5-note grade =3D Excellent! |
