Dante's Lament formed four years ago as a 3 piece rock band with hard driven hooks and massive sound for its size. Originally founded by guitarist Howie Brown, bassist Rob "Weebs" Brown and drummer Germain Lopez, Dante's Lament draws from classic artists such as Neil Young, Pink Floyd, The Doors, and bands such as Phish and the Chili Peppers. The improvisational live shows for Dante's Lament started in 1998 at the now defunct Wave in NYC. For the first time jamming, Dante's Lament played a 4 song 45 minute set and realized their musical aspirations to play free-form jam. Throughout the years, the band had tried several other musicians to expand the improvisational sound - a keyboardist, rythmn guitarist, and at one point the band was comprised of 6 members, however, after all was said and done, it remained the original three. They played NYC gigs and managed a small following. In March of '99, the band felt that they could create a scene in Florida and packed up and moved - minus Germain, who intended to come. Along for the trip was Jeff Stroum, whose primary job was sound and lights. While in Florida, two major events occurred - the first being that Germain did not come. As frustrated as Germain was with being unable to move, he continued to shop Dante's Lament's demo and found interested promoters and an audience over local college radio in NYC. The second major event to occur woud be the addition of Jeff Stroum on rythmn guitar. Dantes Lament and Jeff go back to when the band started - one drunken summer night with a guitar and a couple of power chords, Jeff played for the first time - that following day, Rob and Howie bought Jeff a guitar and Howie would teach Jeff over the following years. The warm Florida air and nights by the pool would serve musically well. For over ten months, Howie, Rob and Jeff would write and play every day, creating a tightness and rythmn that was strong and continuous, even without a drummer. With all the musical progress, moving back to NY seemed inevitable. To reunite with Germain and take this music to a city that would embrace it's beginning, is reinforced with the feeling of comfort and powerful energy. A long time in the process, Dante's Lament is ready to bring it's music to the people and we hope that you come check us out.

    Press Reviews
"You'd have to have something really important goin' on to wanna miss Dante's Lament" ..........Voice Choices, Village Voice (Aug. 7, '01) "Dante’s Lament came a-phishing up the stage and the night’s "connective tissue" lowers down the volume, rests the self-marinating cynicism, and chucks the spicy kiss-and-tell declarations of fucked-up valentines… The band’s goal, says its website blurb, "is to create emotion and movement, both musically and spiritually." Heavy stuff, but with its transcendent and easyflowing rhythm section—anchored on Lopez’s cerebral drum shuffling and Weebs Brown’s gaunt bassline—certainly, we didn’t require weeds to soar along Dante’s Lament’s trip rock." ..........Rockin' Rage 2 at NYC review at Philmusic.com, Issue #1 of The Indie Rockzine.
