Artist History
In the summer of 2000, singer/guitarist Ben Sprague, bassist/singer Mark Ewer, and guitarist Jeremy Hansen began forming aband from the wreckage of the various bands they had each played in over the years. They wrote some songs together anddecided they needed a drummer, so in November of 2000 Cory Van Name (himself left recently band-less) came along andfilled the void. What emerged from their practice sessions in the depths of Portland suburbia is what we now call Oliver. In what turned out to be the most productive three months any of the band members had ever experienced, Oliver put togethera solid repertoire of rock/pop songs, played their first show (to the delight of hundreds of concertgoers), and released their firstEP. The band recorded and mixed the five-song, self-titled EP at mutual friend Kris Crummett's home studio in Hillsboro, andmastered it at Freq Mastering in Portland. If the band was forced to cite influences, the names one would be likely to hear from them would be Weezer, Superdrag, andNada Surf. Heavy guitars and drums underlie beautiful vocal harmonies in Oliver's particular brand of rock/pop.As the band's fan base and song list continues to grow, Oliver looks to the future of shows, touring, and more recording. Thegoal is to get their music out to the largest possible audience, and this group has the drive that it will take to go all the way. |
