Artist History Champagne Dominguez Morales grew up surrounded by music. She simply knew she wanted to be a singer. At a tender age, her mother – entertainer/producer Dinah Dominguez – showered her with the beauty of song and nurtured her with courage. "I always knew I wanted to be a singer. God gave me this talent, but my mother influenced it," she says. At age ten, Champagne, showing great interest and promise in her art, trained with world-renowned Filipino composer Ryan Cayabyab, and at the same time essayed roles in Repertory Philippines productions. "I had to work on my singing, I had so much to improve. If you think you're the best, it would stunt your growth." A couple of years later, and with growing self confidence evident, Champagne started performing as front act for her mother's productions. Learning from the styles of Lea Salonga and Regine Velasquez, both of whom she admires; Gary V, whose purposeful singing she respects; as well as international artists Brandy and Monica, were very helpful. So, too, have a myriad of other activities she engages in, such as in-store mannequin modeling, stage performances, and school and inter-school competitions. These have all paid off. Armed with the steely determination to constantly improve her craft, and an impressive list of showcases under her belt, Champagne mounted her greatest challenge. In November of 1997, then still 15 years of age, she set her sights on the 1998 MetroPop Star Search. Although the decision to join the competition was mutual between mother and daughter, it was the former who triggered the quest. Champagne even admits, "At first I was hesitant, my mom needed to prod me. All I knew was DO YOUR BEST." The November weather was harsh on her. Suffering from fever and sore throat a few days before the event was horrifying, to say the least. She had to resort to everything from aromatherapy to massage, and good old-fashioned ginger, not to mention a ton of prayers. Champagne had no idea what was in store for her. No one more surprised than herself, she bagged the big one and walked away with the PhP 300,000 booty. The rest, as they say, is history. Having won the GMA Network sponsored event, she is now under their management via the GMA Talent Center. Major record companies started to court her the moment they got wind of this rising star. Choosing Epic, the budding singer signed a two-year contract, and has recorded a self-titled solo debut album with producer Rey Valera.
