Artist History
Topper is a 5 piece rock band formed in the early 1970's, performing rock and roll covers and origionals. In 1975, Topper bassist Doug Stegmeyer got a call to fly out to LA to tour with Billy Joel. After getting fed up with things in California, Billy Joel and Doug relocated back to New York. It was there that Topper drummer Liberty DeVitto and Topper guitarist Russell Javors joined up with Billy, thus transforming Topper into the now infamous BILLY JOEL BAND. in 1976 topper joined forces with the piano man, Billy Joel. Topper became the Billy Joel band, producing such hits as 'Just The Way You Are,' 'Only The Good Die Young,' 'It's Still Rock And Roll To Me,' 'Uptown Girl,' and many many more! Russell Javors and Doug Stegmeyer parted ways with Billy Joel in 1987. Russell has moved on to become a toy manufacturer in Michigan. Sadly, in 1995, bassist and the rock of the Billy Joel band, Doug Stegmeyer passed away. Everyone misses him terribly. Liberty DeVitto is still touring with Billy Joel. Liberty's new love is a jazzy funk / blues band from Winter Park Florida called "The Fun(k) Club." Though this band is no more, Liberty, Russell, and myself wish to bring you this great Topper material for the first time ever! We hope you all enjoy it! ----- Michael Grosvenor |
