Artist History
FLASHBACK : 1986... Measure For Measure...
D. Chandler: "The very first song I ever wrote was a song called Measure For Measure. It was a basic piano riff and it was a very heartfelt song. That was 1986 and I was still in high school. I'm especially proud of that song."
It's been a long time between Measure For Measure and the new SUB ONE CD, IYUS AAS MEMSMIS. From simple structures to twisted lyrics and funky rhythms pounded out and electronically enhanced, what has stuck true to David Chandler's songwriting style is the use of synthesized and electronic sounds.
CREATION: 1993... Beginnings of Silicon based Mutilage...
The very first incarnation of SUB ONE began in Philadelphia in 1993. Two songs were recorded in the first sessions, "Human Surroundings (Control This Joystick)" and "Tubes." The latter of which has never seen the light of day other than being on a demo tape that lies in the SUB ONE archives. Just as well, a remix of "Human Surroundings" came out of those sessions.
It wasn't until 1995 that a full-fledged demo was produced entitled POOM! This demo included "Human Surroundings" as well as a cover of the Judas Priest hit "You've Got Another Thing Comin'." SUB ONE established itself as a recording artist, leaving live performances out of question altogether.
Several projects between 1996 through 2000 came to surface but once again never saw the light of day. A project entitled PSYCHOBLITZERBLOBBENBLEEGEN, which was to be a SUB ONE release never put on CD and only available for download off of a website only yielded 3 songs and a killer website. These songs were purely instrumental and showed a more serious side to songwriting for Mr. Chandler.
MILLENIUM: 2001... Above and Beyond The Cyberspace Realm...
In 2001, a song entitled "Not So Comical" was premiered on the internet. This song paved the way for the future of SUB ONE. Although it was a pure instrumental track, it was a break away from Mr. Chandler's typical style of instrumental jamming. This track also paved the way for experimentation with Ambient/Electronic music and opened the floodgate for futuristic songwriting.
Although "Not So Comical" was slated for release on a full length CD, it didn't make the track listing. During the winter of 2001 and a good portion of 2002, David Chandler utilized his home studio to compose and record several songs which culminated into IYUS AAS MEMSMIS. These songs are not only the most solid recordings from SUB ONE to date, they are a perfect example of how David Chandler has come full circle with his talent.
The future for SUB ONE holds live performances, and a new CD slated for release in late Spring, early Summer 2003. |
