Press Reviews
Randy Simer at Common Grounds -
One thing that always impresses me about an artist is when they REALLY know how to perform. Not only does Randy attack his guitar and strut around the stage like he owns it, but he also knows how to approach a microphone. When he is belting out a part he backs away from the mic so he doesn't inadvertently kill you. This may be a subtle thing, but it makes a performance more enjoyable when you're not being assaulted by the sound. Randy's music is passionate and he knows how to deliver that passion to the audience.
The sound system in Common Grounds is simple, but it does a great job. I've seen full bands play there and the sound system gets the vocals across amazingly well. On this night the PA's job was far too easy: Randy's Fender acoustic sounded rich and full, while his voice had amazing dynamics and presence.
Watching Randy as he paces around stage is like watching a boxer before a fight. You almost expect him to explode... but then another lyric comes out of his mouth and you are wrapped up in another powerful song. His subjects range from love letters to regrets, subjects we can all relate to. When randy is in between songs he has an engaging manner of talking to the audience that really makes you feel comfortable, and truly a part of the performance.
Randy has a lot to offer an audience with years of experience opening up for everyone from Duran Duran to Ministry. He has played everywhere from Coffee shops to Sports Arena's - no gig is too small for Randy to come and rock the place. If you want someone who energizes you, and makes you feel alive then you should check out Randy. If you want to take a nap - then go see someone else!!
