TUNE IN OR LOSE OUT: After three months of intense recording sessions at Ground Zero Studios?resulting in tomorrow?s CD release party?FM-1960 has returned to live music with a vengeance, ferociously assaulting the ears of rock-hungry crowds and causing uncontrollable and frenzied fits of dancing feet. Witnessed just three weekends ago over the hills in the comfort of cozy Cold Spring Tavern, the band packed the house on a rainy Sunday afternoon, and the vibe was almost prophetic. That is to say, these guys are going somewhere. This Friday at The Edge, FM-1960 brings its rock and roll to the masses, releasing its first EP, a seven-song set of all-original music. With Isla Vista?s Blue Room opening at about 10 p.m., the show should not be missed by anyone who has a vested interest in Santa Barbara?s live scene. Hailing from Houston, Brian (guitar, vocals) and Kevin (drums) Kinsella teamed up with bassist Jeff Kranzler?a local boy and engineer by day?to form the Kinsella Brothers band, which played for two years with regularity at different venues around town. One day, while jamming in Kranzler?s backyard with Seattle native Ian Jones?a guitar-playing songwriter who also keyboards?they got a call from the Jolly Tiger, anxious for an opening band. They brought their jam session downtown and?kazaam!?a new band was formed. Called FM-1960 after a street in Houston?and for other reasons, like the fact that there was no FM on your dial in 1960?their schedule is already packed, with a Jolly Tiger homecoming on April 7, a trip up north to the San Luis Obispo Brew Co. on April 12, and a May 6 date for Cold Spring. Get a taste before they head off on a late summer tour from Seattle, down the coast, and on to Houston
