Artist History
....after 'Hav' the guys started the work of what was to be the next step in the evolution of record production. In October of ’90 the boys were quoted as saying "Our next recording will be better than ‘Hon är hav’. It will be as much as an improvement over Hav that that was over ‘Simple world’". The news from the studio was obviously promising optimistically scheduling ‘Stalin’ for release in December of 1990. But while Strandby and Fransson worked feverishly on what turned out to be more than a records worth of music, their obsessive devotion to "decency" made that December date impossible. It was becoming clear that nobody, including Sten knew when they would finish the ‘Stalin’-record. The boys started to lose their confidence and creative momentum. Nevertheless, in early 1991, even as pressure mounted for them to finish, recording proceeded in a prolific pace. But what had begun as an exciting creative adventure was becoming an unhappy time for the participants; the key relationship with Lars was beginning to deteriorate. For several weeks no recording took place. (Sometimes in the early spring, the all-time collaborator Lars, finding himself in the untenable position of defending his work, left the project.) At a point in rock music history when it was vital to be "first" the "new" sound, work on ‘Stalin’ ground to a halt. Critical weeks slipped by without progress. Those delays would prove to be fatal for the record, why it became the least famous record in rock history, when the remains of the original intentions were released in February 1992. Describing what ‘Stalin’ would have been and then comparing it to the record is unfair. No record could make up for the disappointment that the two devoted fans felt when the record finally was released... |

Press Reviews
