Artist description
Solo artist Charles Garramone is the creator of this project known as "Suburban Ringer".Self defined and always room for experimentation, the music is enlightening. Charles Garramone began playing guitar at the age of 16, soon to be playing professionally as a studio musician by the age of 18. Over the years, after playing with multiple bands and artists, Garramone created a mythical project known as "Suburban Ringer". All of Suburban Ringer's music is recorded in Charles Garramone's private studio "Whitefoot Studios", originally located in South New Jersey but now located in Detroit, MI.The music of Suburban Ringer has been circulating in the underground for over 4 years, but has received rave reviews by many E-zines and local musicians. With Suburban Ringer's self titled debut release in 1997, the birth of the unheard had reached several hundred listeners with reverberations traveling across the world via the internet and Suburban Ringers online music archive. By the use of the internet for self promotion, Suburban Ringer has reached thousands of listeners and has distributed hundreds of CD's to those requesting Suburban Ringer's music. The 1997 debut revealed a folky-psychedelic-rock experience recorded entirely on an 8-track with meager effects. Many of Suburban Ringer listeners comment on the remiscent styles of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young laced with darker imagery of Alice in Chains and King's X."One of my greatest influences as musician is definitely King's X. We used to jam out to these kats all the time when I was in college. I don't think my music sounds anything like them, but the influence is definitely there."In 1998 Suburban Ringer's second CD "King of the Blacktrees" was released with shock to Suburban fans. Abandoning most of its folky feel, Garramone had redesigned Suburban Ringer's sound to fit a dark and heavy laden mood. "'King of the Blacktrees' is like nothing I have ever heard. The music is dark and haunting, but leaves you wanting to listen to more. Everybody needs to experience this unique musical experience." jamie@michiganartists.com"King of the Blacktrees" (KOB) has been reviewed as "...an effort into the surreal imagination of wonder." The album is a full featured story about a mystical warrior traveling through myopic tribal warfare. The CD jacket contains a full length story with correlations to the lyrics side by side, and developing imagery of the music with turmoiled plots. Garramone leaves no taboo unturned with this epic tale and responds equally with diversified music ranging from walls of guitars thrusting into an airy acoustic flight. Vocally Garramone reaches soft tones of sedation, but can pull you into a pit of hell with powerful chorus lines. Not one style can be categorized, except its own category, "Suburban"."I don't know what I was thinking of when I wrote Blacktree. All the songs seemed to be melting into eachother and then I had this huge project under my hands. I put this piece together and then sent it out to a few friends for opinions. Many of them were shocked at the content and style of the music, but overall I guess their response was enlightening. My mother even jokingly told me I was a sick little boy, but she had her favorate songs like 'Ocean' that she said would make her cry from the beauty."After KOB's release Garramone packed his bags and traveled the country month to month. In Lansing, MI he met up with friend Phil Linsky of "Rabinowitz" and recorded "In My Life", an unreleased tune available soon on Suburban website. The song was spread around to local college stations and was played on many local band programs. Rabinowitz continues to reside in Lansing while Suburban Ringer now resides in Detroit.Currently Garramone is recording new material with an unspecified release date in late 2000 or early 2001. What many people do not know is Suburban Ringer's founder is a resident physician in General Surgery and records music in his spare time. "All bets are off as far as a release date is concerned for a new album, but I'm hoping at the latest for 2001."Definitely check out this underground independent artist who redefines music in its perfect essence "freedom".-Bailey G.
