Artist description
Never one to dwell on past accomplishments, Russ Bryant, like most creative people, is a restless artist in a state of perpetual forward motion. Performing on both tenor and soprano saxophones, he brings an emotional urgency to each song. Bryant bares his soul through his playing and uses his saxophone as a musical vehicle for the listener. “Bryant is awesome,” says OffBeat Magazine. As a composer, he has compiled a varied book for his performances, featuring the many sides of his playing as well as the musicians with whom he works.
Raised in Atlanta, Bryant’s musical training began in public schools at the age of eleven, but his real musical education began when he moved to Louisiana in 1995. While at Louisiana State University, Bryant supplemented his education by frequenting the music clubs of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, learning from the masters of the craft.
Bryant has performed with many artists during the course of his musical career, which has given him the opportunity to play all styles of music as well as write musical compositions for the various settings. Some of the artists Bryant has shared the stage with include Ed Peterson, Alvin Batiste, the North Mississippi All-Stars, Recovery, Debbie Reynolds, Maureen McGovern, Rex Richardson, Bill Grimes, the Toledo Symphony, the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Oakridge Boys, Mary Wilson, Crystal Gayle, The Miracles, Ben E. King, Ron Raines, Rev. Norman Williams, John Lisi, Chicago Al, Hoodoo Revue, Larry Garner, and Tabby Thomas.
Having never lost his commitment to education and the promotion of music, Bryant teaches saxophone and clarinet privately in Baton Rouge, in addition to his busy schedule as a performing artist
