Artist History
For Jon, sharing his music with you is a dream come true. Jon has had a passion for music for as long as he can remember. Says the composer/pianist, “One of my earliest memories as a toddler is listening to a song that had this profound effect on me which I didn’t understand. I remember crawling up to the speaker on my hands and knees, completely immersed. What a hilarious sight that must have been – with my head bobbing up and down and my diapered behind swaying to the melody.”As a young child, Jon convinced his parents to send him to piano lessons. Classically trained since the age of five, Jon was able to build a foundation in technical skills and music theory. However, early on he realized that his interests really lay in composing his own music. So what began as the untrained cacophony of a young child gradually blossomed into rolling melodies and expressive themes. After receiving his bachelor of arts from the University of California at Berkeley, Jon resolved to record his music so that he could share it with a broader audience. At the heart of Jon’s music is the melody. “These melodies just brew in my mind when I’m in a certain mood or thinking about something, or sometimes when I’m just relaxing and enjoying life,” says Jon. Sometimes these musical phrases and themes will develop in his head for weeks or months before he even begins to write them down. “When I get a new musical idea,” explains Jon, “I like to reshape it in my mind and refine it on the piano before committing it to paper. It’s part of the creative process for me. I don’t like to get bogged down in the technical details until I feel like I’ve been able to include everything that I wanted to convey.” And such expression is what Jon strives for. He by no means regards himself as a virtuoso pianist, but he does see the piano as a versatile and capable instrument for communicating the thoughts and feelings that make us unique. So whether you’re in the mood to work, study or simply relax, you’ll find Jon’s music as the perfect companion, either in the background or at the forefront. And if you feel so inclined, lean back a little in your chair, close your eyes, and let yourself go for a while. Reflect on your day, remember what’s important in life, and indulge in the joy of living. |
